But recent research from Independent.ie suggests that Irish firms are not prepared for the regulation which come into place next May.
A survey conducted among over 200 Irish businesses showed that over half of those surveyed are not prepared for GDPR while a further 32pc aid they are not aware of non-compliance implications which could be costly.
